The Christmas path of five stars

When the snowflakes are falling from the sky, the lights twinkle on the Christmas tree and the smell of tea and cookies is in the air, Christmas markets in South Tyrol expect many visitors to enjoy this pensive atmosphere.

The path of 5 stars includes the Christmas markets in Piazza Walther in Bolzano, at Brunico in Via Bastioni and Tschurtschenthaler Park, in Bressanone in the Piazza del Duomo, in Vipiteno in Town Square and the Meran Advent in the center of the city.

Our hotels and our pensions

The Schenna Hotel Resort consists of two hotels and two pensions:

**** Hotel Schwefelbad:
The Hotel Schwefelbad has been furnished with great elegance and old traditions and modern culture meet in a cozy atmosphere. Elegant and relaxing holiday is guaranteed.

*** Hotel Rosengarten:
This 3-star hotel is located directly on the southern side of Scena and is particularly suitable for family holidays. A welcoming atmosphere, beautiful terrace with fantastic views and a nice spa awaits you.

*** Pension Etschblick:
A breathtaking view of the Etsch Valley offers the Pension Etschblick. Nice rooms, an outdoor pool and a romantic oasis of well-being will make unforgettable your holiday in Scena.

*** Pension Mitterplatt:
Especially families spend a quiet and relaxing holiday in the Pension Mitterplatt, which offers a splendid view of the spa town of Merano.

Chestnut Krapfen of Merano

Dough (100-120 pieces)
1 kg of flour 00
4 egg yolks
250 g melted butter
½ cup milk
½ cup water
1 small glass of grappa
salt

Filling
1 kg of chestnuts
250 g walnuts
2 packets of vanilla sugar
250 g sugar
1 pinch of cinnamon
lemon juice

Peanut oil for frying

Impastre flour, egg yolks, butter, milk, water, grappa and salt until the mixture is smooth. Let stand for one hour.
Boil the chestnuts in water, peel and mash. Add the remaining ingredients for the filling and mix.
Roll out the dough and add small mounds of filling. Cover with a second layer of dough and cut out small Krapfen with the dough-wheel.
Fry it in hot peanut oil.

Itinerary Schenner Waalweg

The western part of South Tyrol is very sunny and ideal for trips along the canals. In Autumn we recommend a walk along the "Schenner Waalweg".

The starting point is the Café Ifinger over the school in Scena. Here turn right and crossing the street “Ifinger” you will arrive at the funicular Taser. From here follow the path "Waalweg", right towards the south to the romantic "ladder of cats" and continue to the farm Brunjaunhof. With a magnificent view the "Schenner Waalweg" goes above St. Georgen and returns to Schenna.

Glamorous late Autumn in Merano and environs

Who spends now his vacation in Schenna, can take pleasure in numerous autumnal highlights. The smell of fresh apples and roasted chestnuts lies in the air, the vintage begins and the multicoloured forests invite to breathtaking excursions and walks.

Moreover, from the 14th to the 16th of October 2011, the traditional Grape Festival of Merano takes place in the city centre of Merano which is accompanied by a huge supporting programme from culinary highlights to folkloric music.

Relax and pamper body and soul. The Spa at the Schenna Hotel Resort is a haven of rest and relaxation.

It consists of four swimming pools with a beach of 157 m in length and a sauna area with finnish and bio sauna, turkish bath and Kneipp, rose sauna and relaxation rooms with inviting water beds.

For the year 2012 will be opened an internal and external saltwater pool at the Pension Mitterplatt.

Mountain bike holiday in Val Venosta - Vinschgau

The Val Venosta and the environs of Merano are a paradise for lovers of mountain biking and cycling. In this area there are thousands possibilities of excursions on the bike.

The Vinschgau with its new and modern train attracts many sports enthusiasts. Along the railway line have been established hire of bicycles and with the Bikemobil Card was created an attractive and complete offer.

Südtirol Classic Festival

It is shortly to the 26th edition of the Music Weeks in Merano. Every year this festival surprises with beautiful concerts.

Merano, the spa town, with its architecture from the Danube Monarchy gives these Musical Weeks a particular charm.

The Budapest Festival Orchestra opens the südtirol classic festival this year on 25th August at 20.30 in the famous Kursaal of the city.

Many famous artists and ensembles from around the world will perform until September 22, 2011 on stage at the prestigious Merano Kurhaus, the Stadttheater and the Knight’s Hall in Tyrol Castle.
